Our Bal Chatri Traps are Proven!

Bal Chatri Traps that work!

Several people have tried our traps and reported success trapping Redtails.

I also received an email from a falconer from Texas. Apparently while trying to trap a passage redtail with one of these traps, a haggard tried to snatch the trap. Within seconds of that stoop the haggard was caught! Here is the pic I received.

Haggard Red Tail

Tulsa Hawk
Unless licensed to do so, please do not trap this hawk. Falconers by law cannot take or remove a haggard hawk( the exception is the haggard kestrel) unless the hawk is disturbing the neighborhood.

The hawk above is a haggard redtail hawk. If you are trapping a hawk for falconry this is the hawk you want to avoid. This hawk is an established hunter. Its almost impossible to train a haggard in general. Look for the red tail.

The redtail hawk you want doesn't have a red tail. That is a passage bird, that means its young.

Using the Bal Chatri

Once your Bal chatri arrives, check to make sure its not dented in. Occasionally careless packages handlers will accidentally leave a buff or worse in the trap.As long as it isn't smashed. You will notice the trap has several nooses placed either at random or in a specific order. Usually it doesn't matter. Some of the traps are clover style with 4 nooses in one spot, sometimes with tubing to make them stand.Other traps are what I call curly Q's. Either way the trap works.

Steps before you go hawking

Make Sure you have at least a 3lb weight and a rat.

  1. Put your bait in the trap. (A Rat, mouse or pigeon)
  2. Shut the door and use rope or a zip tie to keep it close.(Make sure you keep the corners closed!)
  3. Get your weight and tie it to the bottom of your trap.
  4. Turn the trap over nooses up and make sure all the nooses are open.
  5. Now your ready.
